My middle school assistant principal was a man of few words. He was a veteran of World War II, and a survivor of the Bataan Death March. To say he was tough would be like describing granite as a slightly hard rock. This was one tough guy. He actually was nice when you got to know him, but most of us were far to overwhelmed by his tough guy persona. He was the only man I’ve ever seen who could quiet an entire middle school lunch room simply by standing up and saying, “Settle down!” We did. No one wanted to cross Mr. Beauford.
