Two hundred and forty-three years ago, Thomas Jefferson used his quill to write the words “We hold these truths to be self-evident.” He then proceeded to list the things that everyone, deep down, knows are true. We now call it the Declaration of Independence. His point was that the colonists were not doing anything beyond what anyone else would do. They simply wanted to be free.
The final six commandments are self-evident. It’s obvious that they are commands we should follow. Even those who deny the existence of God know that they are true. So why do we have so much trouble following them? This Sunday, we will take a look at the commands (Exodus 20:12-17) and why we continue to rebel against them.
See you Sunday!
